Our Vision
Building International Competitiveness.
The pathway aims to establish South Africa as a consistently competitive university rowing nation, developing crews capable of reaching A Finals and competing for podium results at major international university competitions.
University rowing is also intended to serve as a meaningful development stage between junior and Under-23 rowing — helping retain athletes in the sport while preparing them for progression into South African Under-23 and Senior National Teams.

WUG and WURC are major programme targets, but international university rowing opportunities do not have to be limited to those championships.

A major multi-sport international university competition and a key performance target within the pathway.

The 2029 Ambition
Depth Across the Full Racing Programme
By the 2029 FISU World University Games, the programme aims to have developed sufficient competitive depth to target representation across every available men's and women's rowing boat class, where competition and qualification requirements permit.
The objective is not simply to send more athletes. It is to develop enough internationally competitive athletes to field credible crews across the programme while progressing towards consistent A Final and podium-level performance.
